When the phrase Ancient Rome is mentioned, you will get several pictures in your mind about The Roman Guy and the whole Rome features. We are able to picture that because of the several shows and movies that have given us the history. However, the truth is, the shows and movies don’t tell all the story. Some of their customs that you will read about will surprise you.
A story goes that most Romans used urine valuable in their lives. Urine business was so common that even the government itself had placed taxes on any sale of urine. The Roman Guy and all Romans used to go collecting pee at urinals in various public places. Various homes were considered great places by those who could visit for urine collections.
It was very crucial that Romans seek the help of magicians to keep surviving in bathrooms. Any case of constipation or diarrhea meant that death was staring at you. In ancient Rome, it was a normal thing to die in the restroom. There was a belief that creatures lived in the Roman sewage system were bound to bit people on their way to the bathroom. Another theory was that methane would buildup and often ignite causing explosion underneath bathroom goers.
The Romans believed that losing gladiators weren’t the end but the beginning of obtaining medication for epilepsy and as aphrodisiac. The victorious gladiator’s skin scrapings and sweat got would be placed in bottles and sold as an aphrodisiac by The Roman Guy, typically in the form of facial creams. The Roman women would use the made cream on their faces and cover them hoping that it would make them enticing to men.
The Roman Guy and all the Romans used to be cautious about allowing their eyes to be bigger than their stomachs. It was a common phenomenon for The Roman Guy to eat so much food and deliberately induce vomiting so that they will keep eating.
Whenever Roman gladiators died, The Roman Guy would gather their blood and sell them as medicine. With such a fighter’s blood, their blood was taken as most powerful and hence it could cure such diseases as epilepsy when taken. You could find Romans who used to pull out the livers of the gladiators and eat them body parts raw. A doctor would make claims that they saw patients of epilepsy who drunk blood and got well from epilepsy.
It was a normal thing to find Roman women dying their hair every time. Though this dye wasn’t packaged in a special box, it was good for hair dying and often could be prepared by The Roman Guy.
